2 June 2012 - Longhouse Strategic Reconnaissance

After the previous day's heavy drinking, I was not in the greatest shape.
Went down to the river to soak away the alcohol.
Best hangover cure ever.
Lunch at Imor's cousin's longhouse. As usual, we were treated by VIPs. Except for the pig sacrifice, we received the same kind of red carpet treatment. Lots of drink, lots of good food, lots of speeches. I think a typical gawai house visit lasts at least 3 hours.
Back to the longhouse for some R&R. I whipped out the iPad and screened 'Goon'. No kids allowed.
Dinner was at a nearby longhouse, about 2KM down the rode. It was a wedding, so massive party.
We planned on getting there after the speeches, before the food. We could not have timed it better.
It was one song, grace, then eat. We should have left after 'eat', but out of respect, we stayed till after Dato Edmund gave his speech.
Early night cos we had an early departure.
Strangely enough, the one person who most affected the schedule, stayed back to drink and party till 4.30am. Meanwhile, the rest of us, who did not have to return to Kuching early, missed out on the festivities.

Another longhouse, another round of door to door drinking. Thank goodness, this longhouse was not very long.

Speech, speech...

Pork prepared 5 ways.
