30 May 2009 - Sto. Niño de Cebu

Farewell Surigao.
1pm flight back to Cebu.
Then another long wait till the 8pm flight to Singapore.
This time, we went for a blitz tour of Cebu. Grabbing a couple of cabs and heading down to the famous Santo Nino De Cebu. Where Magellan was supposed to have left a statue of Jesus behind. 45mins to the church, 10mins to queue to see the Jesus, 45mins back to the airport. Then another hour standing in line waiting to check in behind the worlds greatest jackass. 30mins for Rickey and Ripken to lose their money in the casino, a $7 SGD can of coke and we're on the plane back to Singapore.

Goodbye Surigao.

If you ever go to Surigao, stay at the Gateway hotel, then take public transport down to the dock (or hire a van from the hotel. 50peso per person, min 200pesos). There were 2 beaches we missed, that you should try to take in. The black sand beach and the pebble beach. Both are a 15-20min drive from the city itself (different directions), you don't need a boat to get to these beaches. We also missed the Cantiasay San Pedro Bridge which spans 2 islands. It was scheduled on this trip, but we had way more fun on the Sagisi beach anyway. Don't forget to visit the market, grab some freshly caught fish and get Mr Pangang to grill them for you (20pesos per KG, and they'll clean it for you as well)

Definitely go to Siargao, but stay at Cloud 9. Keep one day open for a boat trip to the Naked Island and Dako Island. Guyam Island is a bust at low tide, so the best sequence would be Naked Island --> Guyam Island --> Dako Island. The tide doesn't really go out on Dako, so you can even stay there till late (there's a fishing village 5 mins from the beach) and head back to Siargao when the tide comes back in (to avoid the marsh adventure). Definitely try a Hilut (traditional filipino massage), its a combination of shitzu/swedish and thai. Taking the best of all 3. Wonderful for muscles aching from swimming/snorkeling all day.

To think there were so many places left to visit that we missed on this trip. 8 days was just not enough. I would definitely go back again.
